THE NEW LIGHT SPORT RULE:

The FAA released its most-anticipated new rule on July 20, 2004. The new SP/LSA regulation created a new category of aircraft that fills the gap between ultralight aircraft and larger, more complex general aviation aircraft.

This new category of aircraft includes airplanes, weight-shift control (trikes), powered parachutes, gliders, gyroplanes, and lighter-than-air (balloons and airships).
